Recently, a new homeowner contacted us at Brooklyn’s Best Handyman and General Construction because they had just purchased a house and were looking to rent out their second floor. To make the space more livable, they converted an old closet into a bedroom, but they found a lot of noise coming through the walls. In response, we came up with a strategic plan to build a wall using specialized soundproof materials. Our work scope involved framing a new wall (6’x8’) with an air gap between the current wall. This framing was carried out creatively using wood studs in an offset pattern. We then installed a double layer of sound-resistant drywall by Quiet Rock on both interior and exterior sides of this new wall.
Moreover, to offer more sound resistance, we used SonoPan and a rubber sound barrier. The final step involved painting the wall and trimming it neatly. The end result was outstanding!
