A customer approached Brooklyn’s Best Handyman and General Construction with a concern for her elderly parents living alone in a rental apartment in Brooklyn. Her mother had recently fallen in the bathroom, which heightened their need for home modifications. Limited by the rental property’s regulations, we sourced robust ADA certified grab bars. On assessment, we discovered the bathroom tiles were in poor condition – loose and installed over hollow mortar. A necessary wall repair took place first. This repair involved removing a row of tiles, filling the hollow spaces, and re-fixing the tiles. Some tiles broke in the process, necessitating us to find suitable replacements. The dated colors created a sourcing challenge but we managed. The client and her daughter were delighted with the final result, reminding us that even seemingly small jobs like assisted living modications can evolve into big projects when underlying problems surface. We were more than happy to troubleshoot this for them.
